Midas' Touch
Installation, clay, acrylic, gold wire, 2018.
This sculptural installation is based on the Greek myth of King Midas who’s touch turned everything to gold. What was once a blessing soon turned to a curse after Midas reached out to hug his daughter turning her into a gold statue. This piece is meant to capture the feeling of Midas’ daughter, a woman unwillingly encased in gold, no longer human, because of the touch of a man. This feeling of containment and unrest in the body followed by intense anxiety is something I relate to after being sexually assaulted at the hand of a man.
